Starting off right

I woke up thinking about how to get things going right and I realized two things would be a good starting place.

  • Stretching
  • Prayer

So I did 10 minutes of stretching on the floor in my room followed by 15 minutes of focused prayer time. It was amazing how combining those two things was really helpful in maintaining my focus during prayer. It was as if my blood was flowing good and I did not get sleepy, or anything. I really felt the presence of the Lord. I am going to go for a walk with my friend Richard during my lunch time today. Lets keep it active.

The devil will use any secret against you...

I recently read those words and was struck by how true they could be in every area of life. So, this blog is about getting rid of the secrets. It's about coming clean about my health. It's about making a commitment and sticking to it.

That's were it being a blog makes sense. By putting this out there like this I am holding nothing back.

Here are the issues:
1. I am fat.
2. I have no energy.
3. In a week I turn 39.
4. I have four kids and want to be around to see them grow up.
5. I make bad food choices.
6. I am on 3 medications I'd like to be off of.
7. I am inconsistent in my spiritual life.

As I prepare to turn 39, I am realizing that I have a choice to make. A year from now I could be in worse (or similar) shape when I turn 40, I could pretty much just be content with throwing my health and my life away.

OR

I could be in the best shape of my life. Imagine that, the best shape of my life on my 40th birthday.

That's the goal. No specific weight, no specific number. Just the best of my life, on my 40th birthday. July of 2014.

I need to do this without creating any unsustainable habits or strategies. I need exercise I can do anywhere. Diet changes that are lifelong. No over zealous or unrealistic expectations. I'm going to use the lose it iPhone app to track my progress. I have been doing some math related to my caloric budget and I plan to begin with an 1830 calorie per day net intake.

Today I weigh 249.2 lbs.
